JARVIS HANCLE, Maryline

Maryline Munroe Jarvis Hancle

Maryline Munroe Jarvis Hancle, age 65, of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away at Holy Cross Hospital on Saturday November 10, 2018. She was born on April 7, 1953 to the late Alberdore Fernella Lloyd and Peter Theophilus Jarvis on the beautiful island of Antigua.

She was the proud, loving mother of three sons, Paulo Cochrane, Bruce Cochrane and Nsilo George and the wife of a devoted and compassionate husband, Milton Hancle, of 25 years who diligently supported and cared for her up until the time of her passing.

For 23 years, Maryline worked as a dietary manager in several skilled nursing facilities in Montgomery County, Maryland including Shady Grove Nursing and Rehab Center, Potomac Valley Nursing and Wellness Center, and Holy Cross Nursing and Rehab Center. She was an active member of the Dietary Manager’s Association up until 2016 and was well respected in her field.

Maryline’s spiritual life was a large part of who she was as an individual. Being raised by parents of strong Christian faith and attending Christian-based schools during her formative years, she had an early start in her spiritual journey. Over the years, she attended numerous faith-based churches.  In October 2010, she joined the Reid Temple Church (North campus) and as an active member she began singing in the Adoration Choir under the direction of Mr. Michael White and later joined the Queen Jefferson’s Missionary Society. As a loyal and committed church member, she assisted at the information desk once to twice a month. She also served, briefly, at the Seniors’ Ministry at Reid Temple North and faithfully served the Seniors’ Ministry at Reid Temple Glenn Dale, the Marriage Ministry, Life Groups, and the nursing homes. She sincerely loved the missionaries and what they represented.

Left to mourn the loss of this loving mother, devoted wife and loyal friend is her husband, Milton Hancle; three sons, Paulo Cochrane, Bruce Cochrane and Nsilo George; her siblings: Pauline Clarke, Debbie Jarvis, Rita Jarvis, Sandra Dirkson Nee Jarvis, Wibert Jarvis, Peter Jarvis, John Jarvis, David Jarvis and Paul Jarvis; daughters-in-law, Paige Cochrane, Menina George, daughter-in-law-to-be, Dania Ramirez; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts here and abroad are too numerous to mention.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Reid Temple AME Church (North Campus) located at 12101 Tech Road, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904. Viewing will be 10-10:45 a.m. at the church with funeral services immediately following from 10:45 a.m.-11:45 p.m. Interment will follow at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery at 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20906.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you.

Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

REED, Elizabeth Hayes

Elizabeth Hayes Reed (Age 69)

Elizabeth “Betsy” Reed passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at her home in Silver Spring, MD.  She was loving mother to Erin (Charles “Chip”) Edmonds of Williamsport, PA and Nicholas Spiropoulos of Silver Spring, MD; and a rockstar Grammy to Jacob and Luke Edmonds.

Betsy was born on April 12, 1949 in Bellefonte, PA to William K. “Bill” and Elizabeth “Betty” Hutchins Reed. The family moved frequently for her father’s job in the U.S. Airforce and as a result Betsy attended 13 different schools across the United States and Paris, France during her 12 years of grade school. She graduated from Meadville Area High School in Meadville, PA and from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN with a degree in Radio and TV production.

Her greatest love and greatest gift was making music. From her college days as a member of the vocal trio “The Third Chapter,” all the way through singing songs with her grandsons, music sustained her throughout life’s journey. A soprano and a pianist, she shared her gifts widely – both in performing and teaching. For over 25 years she was a beloved piano teacher to students in the Woodside Park neighborhood of Silver Spring. Her students were a constant source of joy and inspiration. For decades she was a fixture in the music ministry program at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Silver Spring. In addition, she mentored students as the musical director in countless youth theatre productions and for several years in the theatre department at Good Counsel High School. She regularly performed as a cantor, choir member and pianist for numerous Roman Catholic churches in the greater DC area including St. Raphael’s Church (Rockville, MD) and St. Paul’s Church (Damascus, MD). The number of weddings and funerals for which she played and sang are too numerous to count — but sharing music with others in the midst of these meaningful times was truly her joy and life’s work.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother Dan. Survivors in addition to her children and grandchildren include siblings William (Sharon) Reed of TX, David (Michelle) Reed of NY, and sister-in-law Theresa Reed of VT and beloved nieces and nephew.  Memorial Service at St. Raphael’s Church, 1513 Dunster Road, Rockville, MD, 20854 on Friday, November 30, 2018 at noon. Private inurnment at a later date in Paris, IL.

In lieu of flowers, Betsy would ask you to keep the music playing.

Erika immigrated with her family to New York in 1946, settling first on the Lower East Side and later in the Bronx. Erika attended vocational school and trained and worked as a cosmetologist. In the ‘80s, Erika moved to Maryland, continued her work as a cosmetologist and later met and married the late Paul Lake. Erika spent her senior years as a member of the Riderwood Retirement Community in Silver Spring, MD.  Her greatest passion was to travel frequently to New Jersey, Wisconsin and North Carolina in order to build close relationships with each of the nine grandchildren she treasured. When not traveling, she loved playing Mahjong and dining daily with her many friends who will miss her dearly.

In addition to her parents, Erika was pre-deceased by her sister, Inge Hacker, with whom she shared a special bond. Erika’s beautiful smile and loving spirit will survive in those she leaves behind: her children Victor (Susan), Judy Olson (Jeff), Mark (Gayle) and Carol; her nine adoring grandchildren Corey, Carleigh, Erin, Stephanie, Cynthia, Kyle, Will, Casey and Andrew; and her nieces and nephews Linda, Victor, Robert, David, Elinor and their children.
